How to Beat the January Blues

We are approaching the middle of January and with that comes the...
January Blues...
Christmas is over and there is nothing really left for the winter time to look forward to. It's January, we still have around three months to go.

Wrapped up and Warm
January is the hardest to get through in my opinion but we shouldn't wish our lives away, so here are my tips and tricks on surviving the January Blues.

Snuggling up
It's so nice when it's cold to snuggle up inside, with a hot drink and a blanket, no matter what time of day it is. However, in the summer if you do it, you feel as though you are just wasting the good weather and you just get too hot with your blanket and your hot drink just doesn't seem to be as tasty.

Grooming
It's too cold to have your bare legs out so you don't have to keep on top of the shaving which sounds gross. But sometimes taking a break with your shaving and letting the hair grow for a bit is good as when you come to shaving again the leg hair takes more time to grow back. TMI maybe but true. Anyway, you're not constantly having to do it, I know it really doesn't take that much time to do but it feels like such a chore, so winter is your chance to do it less and have a much needed break from it.

Cold water all the time
This is a weird thing to mention but I just love it. I fill my water bottle up with tap water and put it in my bag. I walk to uni and arrive at my lecture. I get my water out and it's so cold and refreshing. Literally my water chills while I am walking. A weird thing to mention but it is the little things that make a difference sometimes, so much better than warm water; it definitely tastes different depending on temperature. It's the little things...

Avoid hot and stickiness
You are never hot and sticky. I always get warm whenever, whatever the season. The problem I have is when my body goes from outside to inside, immediately I get hot and red, and it's embarrassing. However, in the summer that gets vamped up from hot and red to stick and sweating. It is not nice. Plus, you don't have to have that  annoying conversation with yourself as to whether you need a jacket or not.

Makeup
If you love your makeup then this one's for you. No hotness, nothing to melt away your makeup. I feel it keeps better in the winter because you are not sweating (obviously if you get caught in the occasional rain shower that won't help, but a little bit of preparation and a small umbrella for your bag will solve that). Anyway, you can spend all the time you want on your makeup and not have to worry about it. Plus, I feel that my skin is always better in the winter, I have no idea why. Maybe the coldness does it good and the heat in the summer doesn't, who knows...

Cute outfits.
Take advantage of the cold weather and wear all of your winter clothes before it's too late.
You can't wear cute winter hats, ugg boots and fluffy socks all year round. Really get that wear out of all your winter clothes and accessories. Really styling it out might remind you why winter is so good and distract you from the dark and gloomy weather. It's the best time of year to really show off your style as in the summer it can be too hot to wear all the things you want.

Some of my favourite Winter accessories.

Hidden from the sun
I am ginger, therefore the sun hates me. Obviously SPF is still important but in the winter I don't have to worry so much about the sun. For me I can just pop out to the shop or literally be in the sun for 20 minutes in the summer and get burnt. So I guess in the winter I can be worry free.

It may get dark early and you might find yourself down in the dumps about it but you can't waste your time in a rut, you've got to find the good in things. You'll get through it and before you know it you'll be swapping your beanie for a pair of sunnies.

Happy January Everyone!!

  1. I definitely agree with the grooming and cold water in winter! I personally love the colder seasons more despite my changes in mood, but that's because I love the cold! This is a lovely post. Happy January to you too!
